We all know that infamous hug dubbed "the hug heard 'round the world" where Rap Mogul Kayne West and Ghanian-American fashion designer and newly appointed Luis Vuitton Artistic Director Virgil Abloh cried in each other's arms at Abloh's fashion show in Paris just a day ago.
What's amazing about this iconic moment is not just that this Rockford, IL born designer made it to Paris Fashion Week, but that he made it there on his own terms.
Debuting items from his first-ever men's collection, Abloh also revealed a Louis Vuitton sneaker. Updates to the ever popular Millionaire sunglasses were also on showcase along with jumpsuits and other urban streetwear.
This move for Abloh is important on so many levels. Not only is he killing it in the industry, but he's also just a guy from the neighborhood doing what he loves and succeeding. He's a role model for all of us, and I feel connected to his story being a black creative designer in Chicago. It's a huge moment for Abloh, for black creatives, and for Chicagoans looking for someone to look up to.
